The process in India is conducted through centralized counselling, which takes place online. Candidates are invited for counselling based on their rank in the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), the mandatory entrance exam for medical admissions in India. Duration of MBBS in India

  • The MBBS program in India has a total duration of 5.5 years, comprising:
    • 4.5 years of rigorous classroom study, covering theoretical and practical knowledge.

  • For postgraduate studies, it typically requires 3 years to complete.
  • Diploma courses in medical specialties take around 2 years to conclude.
  • Duration for other specialization programs may vary based on the field of study.

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS in India

  • Age Requirement:
    • Candidates must be at least 17 years old at the time of admission.
    • The upper age limit is 25 years, with a relaxation of 5 years for reserved category candidates.
  • Academic Qualifications:
    • Candidates must have completed 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as the primary subjects.
    • General category candidates need to score a minimum of 50% marks in 12th grade.
    • Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC) must achieve a minimum of 40% marks.
    • For AIIMS, candidates must secure 60% in 12th grade, with a minimum of 45% for SC/ST and OBC candidates.
  • Entrance Examinations:
    • NEET is mandatory for all MBBS admissions in India.
    • Other entrance exams include JIPMER, AIIMS, Kerala CEE, Karnataka CET, among others.
